What’s Curl Recovery?

As Black women, we go though a lot in life—stress, loss, exhaustion, pregnancy, illness—and it affects & is reflected through our hair and scalp.

Curl Recovery is simply a period of intentional care in order to deep cleanse our hair from build-up, heal it from life’s stress and neglect, & cultivate a healthy scalp environment for it to flourish and thrive.

I’m an advocate for wearing and caring for your hair in the way that works for you. It’s a lot easier to decide what that is when you actually have a foundation of what to do, why, & how. In this e-guide, I’ll show you the basics of properly cleansing, conditioning, and styling your hair so you can make it work for you.

a little about my journey

Meet haircousin

Before I got into the natural hair space as a licensed professional Curl Artist with the nickname “haircousin”, I was an everyday natural doing my best to make my hair look cute while doing the least amount of work. A true “Lazy Natural”.

Eventually, it got to the point where I was so frustrated trying to piece together bits and pieces of advice from the internet into a makeshift regimen that I was ready to give up on the whole natural thing altogether.

I know how exhausting and stressful caring for our hair can be, mostly because we haven’t been taught how, but I’ve learned that it doesn’t *have* to be that way. We don’t have to invest a lot of money, time, or energy to shift to a simpler, more sustainable way to care for our hair, experience our natural texture, and love the way it looks. We’ve been doing the most for a long time, now it’s time to do less.

I’ve been on both sides of the salon chair, but these days, you’ll find me cutting curls on the beach and at the park. I love being a community-based Curl Artist and I’ve made it my priority to share the education, tools, and know-how to support the naturals in my community. While I no longer accept 1:1 clients, I am available to teach at community events.
